Find My Ride

Find Your Perfect Electric Bike — Without the Guesswork

Choosing an electric bike shouldn’t feel overwhelming. With hundreds of options across every budget, terrain, and riding style, it’s easy to spend hours researching and still feel unsure. Find My Ride is designed to cut through that.

Tell us how you ride, where you ride, and what matters most to you — and we’ll match you to the bikes on our site most likely to suit your profile. Every result links to a full independent review where we go beyond the spec sheet.

How to use this tool:

Work through each filter group in order — they’re designed to build on each other. Select everything that applies to you. The more filters you use, the more targeted your results. When you’re ready, hit the button to see your matched bikes.

Your results are a shortlist to explore — not a final answer. Every rider is different, so we always recommend reading the full review and doing your own research before you buy.

How You Ride

Your riding intent is the single most important filter. It shapes everything — motor requirements, terrain suitability, frame geometry, and range needs. Get this right and the rest falls into place.

Your Budget

E-bike quality improves meaningfully at each price tier. Under $750 involves component trade-offs that affect reliability and safety. $750–$1,500 is the sweet spot for most riders. Above $2,000 is performance territory. Use this to set a realistic range — we’ll only show you bikes that fit.

Your Body

Frame geometry, standover height and payload ratings vary significantly between bikes. Getting height and weight right means the bike physically fits you and is rated to carry you safely. If you have mobility considerations — like needing an easy mount or low-impact riding — use that filter to narrow down bikes designed with those needs in mind.

Your Experience

Your fitness level affects how much you’ll actually rely on the motor. Beginners and casual riders benefit from stable geometry and strong assist. Regular cyclists and athletic riders may prefer a more performance-oriented setup with less hand-holding from the motor.

What You Need

Motor type affects how the bike handles hills and varied terrain. E-bike class determines where you can legally ride and how fast. Key features let you filter out bikes that don’t match your practical requirements — whether that’s a folding frame, throttle capability, or long range.

Riding Intent

How you plan to use your e-bike most of the time. Select everything that applies — many riders use their bike for more than one purpose. This helps match you to bikes that have been assessed for those specific use cases.

Note: selecting more intents broadens your results — if you want a tighter list, choose your primary use only.

  1. Keep styling simple — match your site font, no background needed on the text itself
  2. The popup container itself already has the white background and close X button

Budget

Your budget is one of the most important filters — e-bike quality improves meaningfully at each price tier.

  • Under $750 — entry level, expect component trade-offs on brakes, battery and motor quality
  • $750–$1,500 — the sweet spot for most riders, good component quality across the range
  • $1,500–$2,000 — upper mid-range, stronger motors, better batteries, more refined builds
  • $2,000+ — performance territory, premium components throughout

Note: price reflects the bike’s value — not necessarily what you’ll pay. Sales and discounts are common, especially on Amazon.

Rider Height

Frame geometry and standover height vary significantly between bikes. Getting this right means the bike physically fits you — an ill-fitting frame affects comfort, control and safety.

  • Under 5ft 4 — look for step-through frames, lower standover height and shorter reach
  • 5ft 4 to 5ft 10 — the most common fit range, most bikes are designed around this
  • 5ft 10 to 6ft 2 — check maximum seat post height and top tube length
  • 6ft 2 and above — frame size is critical, many budget bikes will be too small

If you’re on the border between two ranges, select both — some bikes suit riders across a wider height range than their primary category suggests.

Rider Weight

Maximum payload ratings vary significantly between bikes and directly affect safety, performance and battery range. This isn’t just about whether you can ride it — it’s about whether the bike is rated to carry you safely.

  • Under 180lb — the majority of bikes on our site will suit you
  • 180lb–250lb — check payload ratings carefully, most quality bikes cover this range
  • 250lb–300lb — a smaller subset of bikes are rated for this — filter results will reflect that
  • 300lb and above — purpose-built high-capacity bikes only, frame and component ratings are critical

Payload rating includes the rider plus any cargo, bags or accessories. If you regularly carry gear, factor that into your selection.

Mobility Considerations

Some riders have specific physical needs that affect which bike will work for them. This filter helps match you to bikes with the right frame design, mounting points and assist characteristics.

  • Easy Mount Needed — step-through or low-step frames that don’t require swinging a leg over a high top tube
  • Low Impact Preferred — upright riding position, smooth pedal assist, comfortable saddle and grips
  • Balance Concerns — wider tyres, lower centre of gravity and stable geometry matter here
  • Returning to Cycling — bikes with gentler assist curves, stable handling and forgiving geometry
  • None — no specific mobility considerations

Select everything that applies. These filters work together — a rider who needs easy mount and low impact will get a more targeted shortlist than selecting either alone.

Fitness Level

Your fitness level affects how much you’ll rely on the motor assist and what kind of riding experience will suit you best. There’s no right or wrong answer here — e-bikes are designed to meet riders where they are.

  • Beginner — higher assist levels, stable geometry and forgiving handling matter most. The motor does more of the work.
  • Casual Rider — moderate assist, comfortable riding position, not looking to push hard
  • Regular Cyclist — you’re comfortable on a bike and want assist to complement your effort rather than replace it
  • Fit/Athletic — you may prefer a more performance-oriented setup with responsive assist and sportier geometry

Be honest rather than aspirational — choosing a fitness level that reflects how you ride today will give you better matched results than choosing where you’d like to be.

Key Features

Specific features that are either essential or strongly preferred for your riding situation. Only select features that are genuinely important to you — the more you select, the narrower your results.

  • Foldable — bike folds for storage or transport. Important for apartment living, public transport or boot storage.
  • Step-Through — low or no top tube for easy mounting and dismounting
  • Full Suspension — front and rear suspension. Better comfort and control on rough terrain.
  • Throttle Capable — can be powered without pedalling. Useful for hills, fatigue or mobility needs.
  • Long Range (50mi+) — larger battery capacity for longer rides or less frequent charging
  • Lightweight — easier to carry, lift and store. Important if you need to carry the bike up stairs or onto transport.
  • Integrated Lights — built-in front and rear lighting rather than add-ons
  • Rear Rack — built-in mounting point for panniers, bags or cargo
  • Removable Battery — battery can be removed for indoor charging or security
  • Dual Battery — two batteries for extended range or redundancy

Think about your non-negotiables rather than your wish list. Features you’d like are different from features you actually need.

Motor Type

Where the motor is positioned affects how the bike rides, handles hills and distributes weight. Most riders don’t have a strong preference — but if you do, this filter matters.

  • Front Hub — motor in the front wheel. Less common, can feel like being pulled. Generally found on entry-level bikes.
  • Rear Hub — motor in the rear wheel. The most common setup. Natural feeling acceleration, good for flat and moderate terrain.
  • Mid-Drive — motor at the crank, centre of the bike. Better weight distribution, more efficient on hills, works with gears. Generally found on higher quality builds.
  • Dual Motor — front and rear hub motors combined. Maximum power and traction. Heavier and uses more battery. Best for off-road or high-demand use.

If you’re unsure, leave this filter unselected — your other filters will naturally surface the most appropriate motor type for your riding profile.

E-Bike Class

In the US, e-bikes are categorised into three classes that determine where you can legally ride them and how fast they can assist you. This is important — riding an unclassified bike on public roads or shared paths may be illegal in your state.

  • Class 1 — pedal assist only, motor cuts out at 20mph. Permitted on most bike paths, trails and roads.
  • Class 2 — throttle and pedal assist, motor cuts out at 20mph. Permitted in most of the same places as Class 1 though some trails restrict throttle-capable bikes.
  • Class 3 — pedal assist only, motor cuts out at 28mph. Generally restricted to roads and bike lanes — not permitted on most shared paths or trails.
  • Unclassified/Off-Road — exceeds US class limits. Not legal for use on public roads or paths in most states. Off-road and private land use only.

If you plan to ride on public roads, shared paths or trails, check your state’s e-bike laws before purchasing. Our E-Bike Laws by State guide covers the rules for every US state.
